Rear Delivery Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rear\ndelivery system works best when implementing true four-handed dentistry (ie,\nthe equipment is within reach of the assistant, who transfers all instruments\nto the dentist, retrieves handpieces and changes burs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rear delivery is\nthe worst delivery method in the two-hand function (ie, hygienic operation). To\navoid damaging twisting motions, hygienist using the rear delivery system\nshould try to retrieve instruments with the closest (non-dominant) hand to\navoid repeated twisting or  reaching\nacross the body and then transfer the instrument to the dominant hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Side-Delivery Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Side-delivery\nsystems are the best choice for hygienic operators because they encourage less\ntrunk-twisting than rear delivery systems and can easily move with the\nhygienist around the patient’s head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over-the-Patient Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nover-the-patient delivery systems are located over the patient’s chest as its\nname, so you can move freely from the 8 o’clock to the 12 o’clock positions\naround the patient’s head. For operators with short torso, this design may not\nbe ideal, and they may be forced to repeatedly stretch upward for instruments,\nrisking neck and shoulder pain.
